Thank you for visiting this first installment of Cobalt’s first all-baseball issue. We’ve got a great lineup for you, and the response to our Jim Palmer Baseball Writing Prize was overwhelming. Each author was assigned a position in the lineup based on a brief questionnaire that they responded to a week or two ago. Some spoke to a passion for playing a position when they were a kid, or a sadness for never having the chance, or an admiration for the way a position was played by a childhood hero. It was great fun putting this team together, and I am very honored to be able to work with such fine writers.

I hope that you enjoy these stories, essays and poems as much as I do, and that they only reinvigorate your passion for the great American past-time. The “Home Team” will be published tomorrow, July 16th.
