Founded in Baltimore, MD, by Andrew Keating, with the help of former poetry editor Jill Williams, fiction editor Rafe Posey, and nonfiction editor Samantha Stanco, Cobalt has been in the publishing game since 2011.
From June of 2012 to February of 2014, Tabitha Surface served as poetry editor. Ruben Quesada was hired into the position in May of 2014.
In 2013, Cobalt signed its first full-length book deal with authors Ben Tanzer, Dave Housley, Tom Williams and BL Pawelek, launching Cobalt Press. The first book, Four Fathers, a collection of fiction and poetry, was released on June 1, 2014. Two more books are under contract with Baltimore fiction writer Kate Wyer and 2013 Cobalt Poetry Prize winner Jonathan Travelstead.
